New Spider-man to have comic book web shooters

"It's a device."
[Source: Syfy] If you look closely at the recently released photo of Andrew Garfield in his Spidey gear, you can just make out a pair of metallic doodads on his hands. Emma Stone confirms what sharp-eyed fans have deduced: that Peter Parker builds his web-shooters in Marc Webb's reboot.
Even though, in the comics, science whiz Peter Parker invented the gizmos that would allow him to shoot webs from his wrists, Sam Raimi's Spider-Man trilogy turned them into a biological process—a side effect of the same spider bite that gave Peter his powers. (That, in and of itself, might be a remnant from James Cameron's time on Spider-Man: In his 1991 treatment for an abandoned Spidey movie, Peter discovers the bio-organic web spouts after a particularly gooey dream.)
But on the Golden Globes red carpet, the new Gwen Stacy seems to have confirmed that the new webslinger will swing mechanically with three simple words:
"It's a device."

RPG Metanoia

The Philippine's first full length animated film in 3D
RPG Metanoia took 4 years to make with a crew of about 26 animators. Thaumatrope Animation began work in 2007. In 2008, a teaser trailer for the movie (then titled "theRPGmovie") was shown at Level Up's Ragnarok Online event at the World Trade Center. In August 2009, Ambientmedia officially partnered with ABS-CBN. In June 2010, it was announced to be an official entry for the 36th Metro Manila Film Festival. In August 2010, RPG: Metanoia's official website was launched. The Cinema Evaluation Board gave the movie a Grade A. [Source: Wikipedia]

RPG Metanoia is about a young boy name Nico (voiced by Zaijan Jaranilla) who is obsessed with playing online video games. He is encouraged by his father (voiced by Aga Muhlach); however, his mother (voiced by Eugene Domingo) worries if Nico’s passion for video games will be good for his future.

The film premiered on Christmas Day, December 25, 2010, and received several awards from the Metro Manila Film Festival.

The Most Anticipated Movies of 2011

Here's a list of the most anticipated flicks of 2011
[Source: Yahoo! Movies]
Thor (May 6)
This year we'll see comic books, fairy tales, current bestsellers and classic novels come to life on the big screen. You'll have to wait until 2012 for theA-list superheroes like Spider-Man, Batman and even Superman to return to yourlocal megaplex. In the meantime, there's "Thor." Unlike those others, this superhero is not a millionaire with a dark side or a high school kid withunusual insect bites. No. Thor is a god! This movie gives fans a chance to seethe mighty warrior (played by Australian actor Chris Hemsworth) in his ownflick. You'll see him next fighting along side Iron Man and the Hulk in thehotly anticipated "Avengers" movie, which also comes out in 2012.

Pirates of the Caribbean:On Stranger Tides (May 20) -- Jack Sparrow is back, which isn't surprisingconsidering the huge piles of booty raked in by the last three flicks. Thistime Sparrow teams up with his old nemesis Captain Barbossa (Geoffrey Rush) andhis old flame Angelica (Penelope Cruz) to track down the Fountain of Youth.Blocking their path is Blackbeard (Ian McShane) and a host of supernaturalbaddies that includes zombies and mermaids.

The Hangover, Part II (May 26) -- If there's one place onthe planet that can top Vegas in terms of sin, it's the red-light districts of Thailand. Andthat's where Phil (Bradley Cooper) and Alan (Zach Galifianakis) head for Stu's(Ed Helms) bachelor party. It's safe to assume that the party goes horriblywrong. The production landed itself in the news last year with word of twohigh-profile cameos. Bill Clinton appears briefly, perhaps the onlyex-president out there appropriate for a "Hangover" movie. MelGibson, after a lot of screaming and yelling, will not be in the flick.

Transformers: Dark of the Moon (July 1) --"Transformers 2" might have made over $400 million domestically, butjust about everyone from hardcore fans to producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura tostar Shia LaBeouf admits that the movie just wasn't that good.Michael Bay has promised that this flick will bebetter and reportedly will have cooler action and less "dorkycomedy." Also absent from this go-around is Megan Fox, replaced by Victoria's Secret modelRosie Huntington-Whiteley.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 (July 15) --It's taken just about ten years for everyone's favorite boy wizard to have hisfinal face-off with He-Who-Shall-Not-Be-Named. While the previous Potter movie, the first half of J.K. Rowling's tome, started with some high-flying action(literally) only to level into a long stretch of angst, exile and self-doubt,this movie looks like it's going to be one long breathless chase to thatwizarding Gotterdammerung, the battle of Hogwarts.

Cowboys & Aliens (July 29) -- Han Solo and James Bondstar in a Western about aliens. Do you really need to know more? It's averitable tiramisu of Fanboy awesomeness. Jon Favreau of "Iron Man"fame directs.

The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn -- Part 1 (November 18)-- After the wild success of "Eclipse," Twi-hards everywhere are waitingwith bated breath to see how Stephenie Meyer's final book in the Twilightseries is going to be adapted. Thematically, "Breaking Dawn" ismarked with less moony-eyed longing than the previous books and with moreshocks, including a graphic, not to mention icky, child-birthing scene. How canthis movie possibly be faithful to the text and keep a tween-friendly rating ofPG-13? The producers are remaining tight-lipped about the whole thing, but theydid bring in Oscar-winning filmmaker Bill Condon to direct. We'll see if the"Dreamgirls" director can find a way to satisfy both fans and theMPAA.

The Muppets (November 23) -- Kermit, Miss Piggy, Fozzie Bear and the rest of the gang is finally getting a reboot after a twelve yearabsence from the silver screen. The same guys responsible for "ForgettingSarah Marshall" -- Jason Segel and Nicholas Stoller -- wrote thescreenplay, so expect the same silly comic sensibility as "Marshall" -- thoughpresumably with a lot less nudity. There are few public details about "TheMuppets" although Amy Adams, Zach Galifianakis, Paul Rudd and RickyGervais along with Segel do reportedly star.

Mission: Impossible -- Ghost Protocol (December 16) -- TomCruise reprises his role as the seemingly indestructible IMF agent, Ethan Hunt. Not much is known about the plot aside from a couple of pictures with Cruisedangling from the tallest building in the world -- Burj Khalifa in Dubai. If that seemsincredible, it's just as well. The movie's director, Brad Bird, previouslydirected "The Incredibles." Jeremy Renner, Ving Rhames, JoshHolloway, and Simon Pegg also star.

Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (December 21) -- StiegLarsson's book might just be one of the most compulsively readable books outthere; it's a relentlessly riveting murder mystery that turns the popular viewof Sweden from a nice quiet country that makes great furniture to a hotbed offamily jealousy, investigative journalism and hidden crimes. It also featuresone of the most memorable literary characters in memory -- the punk-rock hackersavant Lisbeth Salander. It's not surprising then that film producers snatchedup the movie rights faster than you can say lutefisk. A well-crafted Europeanversion of the movie came out in '09, but now it's Hollywood's turn, featuring director DavidFincher, fresh off his soon-to-be-Oscar-winning flick "The SocialNetwork" and starring Daniel Craig, Christopher Plummer and Rooney Mara asSalander.

The Green Hornet (January 14)

Paul (March 11)
Simon Pegg and Nick Frost go on a road trip to attend San Diego Comic-Con and end up meeting a wise-cracking, booze-drinking illegal alien, as in the extra-terrestrial variety.

Sucker Punch (March 25)

Your Highness (April 8)

Gon - The Anime

Gon with the Wind
Gon is a tiny fictional dinosaur and the title character of a Japanese manga series created by Masashi Tanaka. The Gon series features the completely wordless adventures of the irascible title character as he interacts with the natural world, depicted by Tanaka in lush, realistic detail. Gon somehow survived the extinction of his fellow dinosaurs and interacts with paleolithic animals. In 1998, the manga received an Excellence Prize at the Japan Media Arts Festival. Now it is being made into a CGI animated film. Check out the clip below:

Empire Magazine Reveals First Look at Tintin Movie

[Source: EmpireOnline.com] Steven Spielberg and Peter Jackson have chosen Empire to reveal the first look at The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn. Headed our way next October, the film adapts the enormously popular books by Hergé in performance-captured, 3D form.

Our exclusive and specially-Weta-created cover is a riff on the iconic image of Tintin (Jamie Bell) and his dog Snowy picked out by a spotlight as they are running. Then we have a couple of stills from the film, one showing you Andy Serkis’ Captain Haddock and another with Haddock and Tintin adrift at sea and signalling for help.

“With live action you’re going to have actors pretending to be Captain Haddock and Tintin,” says Peter Jackson. “You’d be casting people to look like them. It’s not really going to feel like the Tintin Hergé drew. It’s going to be somewhat different. With CGI we can bring Hergé’s world to life, keep the stylised caricatured faces, keep everything looking like Hergé’s artwork, but make it photo-real.”
Empire's World Exclusive Tintin Cover
So what can we expect from the story? Here’s what Spielberg told us. “The first part of the film, which is the most mysterious part, certainly owes much to not only film noir but the whole German Brechtian theatre — some of our night scenes and our action scenes are very contrasty. But at the same time the movie is a hell of an adventure.”
The film also stars Simon Pegg and Nick Frost as Thompson and Thomson respectively (“When people first heard that bit of casting they thought that we’d gone barking mad,” says Jackson. Adds Spielberg, “The Thompson Twins can’t be clones of each other. Nick and Simon provided all the differences we needed to foil for each other. They have a wonderful moment in the movie where they start to have an argument about whose sidekick is whose.”) and Daniel Craig as Red Rackham. It also features Cary Elwes, Toby Jones, Mackenzie Crook and Daniel Mays.

And for those of you thinking really far ahead, what has Jackson got planned for his Tintin adventure if and when the planned sequel happens? “One of my favourites is The Seven Crystal Balls, so that’s the one I’ve always been thinking of,” he says. “I also really like the Eastern European ones, the Balkan ones like King Ottokar’s Sceptre and The Calculus Affair. I think it’s a terrific setting for a thriller, the weird Balkan politics and the mysterious secret service agents. I think the Moon ones are terrific, but they’d be good for the third or fourth Tintin film, if we get that far. We want to keep his feet on the ground just a little bit longer.”

For much, much more from Spielberg, Jackson and their entire cast, pick up the new issue of Empire, today. Or better still, order your copy online now!

Superman/Batman: Apocalypse on DVD this September 28

Superman/Batman: Apocalypse is a direct-to-video animated film based on the Superman/Batman comic storyline "The Supergirl from Krypton" and is a sequel to Superman/Batman: Public Enemies. The art style is partly based on that of Michael Turner, who penciled the Superman/Batman comic book arc. The film is the ninth in the DC Universe Animated Original Movies line released by Warner Premiere and Warner Bros. Animation and the first sequel in the line. It is set to be released on September 28, 2010. The film stars Tim Daly as Clark Kent/Superman, Kevin Conroy as Bruce Wayne/Batman, Andre Braugher as Darkseid, Summer Glau as Kara Zor-El/Supergirl, Susan Eisenberg as Princess Diana/Wonder Woman, and Edward Asner as Granny Goodness.

After a spaceship splashes down in Gotham City Harbor, Batman and Superman encounter a mysterious Kryptonian with powers as great as those of the Man of Steel. The Kryptonian is soon revealed to be Kara, who is the cousin of Superman. Superman takes her under his wing to educate her about the ways of Earth. However, the villainous Darkseid has other plans. Big Barda has just escaped and Darkseid is looking for a capable fighter to take over the Female Furies. He sends Granny Goodness to abduct Supergirl and brainwashes her so he can gain control of her, utilizing the powerful Kryptonian to do his bidding. It's up to Batman, Wonder Woman, Big Barda and Superman to save Kara, but they'll have to take the fight to Darkseid within his hostile world – where unknown, deadly threats lurk around every corner, including a brainwashed Kryptonian able to match Superman blow-for-blow. They recruit Big Barda since she has intimate knowledge of Darkseid's home and was able to escape Apokolips before.

Messenger From the Sea

[Source: TwitchFilm.net] Over the last few years an interesting trend has emerged in the world of Japanese animation. You can call it the rise of the indies, a wave of purely independent animators creating their own feature films and OVA releases at remarkably high quality, building a loyal cult of followers around the globe at the same time.

Makoto Shinkai is the most obvious example of this phenomenon, and probably the highest profile, but there are plenty of others as well. Among them, an animator who calls himself simply Nosferatu. Working largely in monochrome with his signature character, Non-Chan, Nosferatu has assembled an impressive body of work and will be releasing a half hour Non-Chan starring short titled The Messenger From The Sea next month. The first teaser for this has just come on the scene and it is rather tasty.

Olivia Wilde will kick butt in cyberspace

The O.C. and House vet told MTV about her character Quorra (whom they call "Cora"), the right-hand woman of Jeff Bridges' character Flynn, who was himself last seen in 1982's Tron. Wilde says of her character kicking butt in the world of Tron (where getting splattered in a lightcycle duel seems an everyday matter), that "I'm a very passive, nonviolent person, but there's something to be said for playing a very strong woman, and being able to train yourself to do something that you never thought you'd be able to do is one of the highlights of being an actor."

Studio Ghibli's Arrietty: The Borrower

[Source: AICN.com] This Hiromasa Yonebayashi directed Ghibli movie opens in Japanese theatres July 17.

Although Ghibli's internationally renowned cofounder Hayao Miyazaki is seldom quoted talking up the studio's films, he has been for Arrietty; telling his staff it moved him to tears and calling Yonebayashi "the first director born and raised at Studio Ghibli."

Producer/Ghibli CEO Toshio Suzuki has said "Arrietty is the character whom the present age needs like Nausicaa [the almost messianic heroine of Miyazaki's Nausicaa: of the Valley of the Wind] who saved the earth which was damaged by natural destruction."

Suzuki also recently revealed that Yonebayashi was the model for Kaonashi (No Face) in Spirited Away.

Buzz on the movie has been really good. Some who have seen it are saying that it could be a strong contender if it makes it into competition at the Venice International Film Festival.
